Description | Reply to BG_ARM_7_1_1 (5) by Baroness Chalker at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The letter deplores slavery but rejects BG’s comparison with reparations to Jewish people: ‘I cannot accept that this comparison provides a historical parallel.’ It also deflects the issue with the longstanding argument: ‘The Trustees of the British Museum, an independent body, have in the past said that they are prevented by the 1963 Museum Act from disposing of any part of their collection.’ |
