INTERNETKOMMENTAR description notes	Die Bronzeglocke ist Bestandteil des kulturellen und künstlerischen Erbe des vermutlich 800jährigen Königreiches von Benin. Das Königreich, welches auf dem Gebiet des heutigen südwestlichen Nigeria gelegen hat, wurde 1897 von den Briten erobert und die höfischen Kunstwerke gelangten als Kriegsbeute nach Europa. Bronzeglocken dienten militärischen, religiösen, zeremoniellen und musikalischen Zwecken. So war diese Glocke am vorderen Rand eines Ahnenaltars aufgestellt. Die meist vierkantigen Glocken variieren in Größe und Verzierung. Die Seitenflächen und der Klöppel sind hier reduziert gestaltet worden, wobei die Seitenflächen mit einem geometrischen Muster versehen sind. Auf der vierten Seite befindet sich ergänzend ein als Flachrelief gestaltetes Gesicht. \|\|(SB)
